2.P. A RESOLUTION DENOUNCING TENNESSEE’S\nSENATE BILL 3, BANNING DRAG SHOWS IN\nPUBLIC SPACES [J. ERICKSON, S. SHYNE, Y.\nQUARKER, A. LOVANO, J. DEL TORO]:\nThe City Council will consider adopting a resolution to\ndenounce the State of Tennessee’s Senate Bill 3,\nwhich bans drags shows in public spaces. The City\nCouncil will also consider suspending official travel to\nTennessee and other states that adopt similar drag\nbans until such time as the new legislation is revoked\nor amended.\nRECOMMENDATIONS: 1) Adopt Resolution No. 23-\n_______ "A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL\nOF THE CITY OF WEST HOLLYWOOD\nDENOUNCING TENNESSEE'S SENATE BILL 3 AND\nSUSPENDING OFFICIAL TRAVEL TO TENNESSEE\nAND ANY OTHER STATE WHICH ADOPTS SIMILAR\nANTI-DRAG LEGISLATION UNTIL SUCH TIME AS\nTHE NEW LAW IS REVOKED, AMENDED, OR\nSTRUCK DOWN;" 2) Direct staff to send copies of\nthe resolution to Tennessee Governor Bill Lee,\nCalifornia Governor Gavin Newsom, California State\nSenator Ben Allen, California State Assembly\nMember Rick Chavez Zbur, and others as deemed\nappropriate; 3) Authorize the City Manager to\nsuspend official travel Tennessee and any other state\nidentified by the Community & Legislative Affairs\nDivision as having adopted anti-drag legislation\nsubstantially similar to Tennessee's SB 3 until such\ntime as the law is revoked, amended, or struck down\nby the courts; 4) Direct the Community & Legislative\nAffairs Division to maintain and update the list of\nstates and cities to which the City has suspended\nofficial travel due to anti-drag legislation and make\nthis list available on the City's website; and 5) Direct\nthe City Manager, City Attorney, and City Clerk to\nreview all current and likely future contracts with\nTennessee-based businesses in order to examine the\nfeasibility of procuring such products and services\nelsewhere until such time as Tennessee's SB 3 is\nrevoked, amended, or struck down by the courts.\nSTAFF REPORT
