RESOLUTION APPROVING APPLICATION(S) FOR SPECIFIED GRANT FUNDS\nFROM THE BUDGET ACT OF 2022, AB179, CHAPTER 249, CONTROL SECTION\n19.56, ITEM 3790-101-0001(K) OTHER COMMUNITY SERVICES, (23) $25,000,000 TO\nTHE CITY OF ALHAMBRA FOR THE CONSTRUCTION OF THE ALHAMBRA\nCOMMUNITY CENTER – F2M22-65, F2M20-64, R2M23-15, C2M21-34, M2M23-48\nOn April 14, 2022, staff submitted a funding request to California State Senator Susan\nRubio for the construction of a new community center where the former medical facility\nwas located. Subsequently, the City was notified that the application was selected for\nfunding in the amount of $25,000,000 as specified in the Budget Act of 2022, AB179,\nChapter 249, Control Section 19.56, Item 3790-101-0001(k) Other Community Services,\n(23). The State Department of Parks and Recreation was delegated the responsibility by\nthe Legislature of the State of California to administer the grant to the City of Alhambra,\nsetting up necessary procedures governing the application. The State Department of\nParks and Recreation requires an official resolution by the City Council which provides\nauthority to proceed with the application and receipt of grant funds pursuant to policies\nand procedures for local assistance specified grants. Staff is also seeking authorization to\n7\n3-27-23\nrequest to add the Alhambra Community Center project to the City’s community workforce\nagreement with the LA/OC Building Trades.\nRecommended Action: City Council approve an application for specified grants from\nthe Budget Act of 2022, AB179, Chapter 249, Control Section 19.56, Item 3790-101-\n0001(k) Other Community Services, (23); adopt Authorizing Resolution No. R2M23-15\nentitled: A Resolution of the City Council of the City of Alhambra approving application(s)\nfor Specified Grant Funds from the Budget Act of 2022, AB179, Chapter 249, Control\nSection 19.56, Item 3790-101-0001(K) Other Community Services, (23) $25,000,000 to\nthe City of Alhambra for the construction of the Alhambra Community Center enabling the\nsubmittal of such application in the amount of $25,000,000; authorize the City Manager,\nor designee, to execute all documents related to grant implementation; authorize the City\nManager to request the project be added to our community workforce agreement; and\ndirect and authorize staff to undertake the steps necessary to finalize the Council’s action.\n(M2M23-48)
