20. Proclaiming October 2023 as “Pregnancy and Infant Loss Awareness\nMonth” and October 15, 2023 as “Pregnancy and Infant Loss Awareness\nDay of Remembrance”\nRecommendation as submitted by Supervisor Mitchell: Proclaim October 2023\nas “Pregnancy and Infant Loss Awareness Month,” coinciding with Sudden\nInfant Death and Sudden Unexplained Infant Death Syndrome Awareness\nMonth throughout Los Angeles County, and recognize the families,\nprofessionals, and volunteers who work to reduce the stigma and alienation\nexperienced by many families, while promoting awareness, understanding and\nsupport for these families; proclaim October 15, 2023, as “Pregnancy and\nInfant Loss Awareness Day of Remembrance” throughout Los Angeles County,\nand encourage County residents to participate at 7:00 p.m. local time in the\nInternational Wave of Light, the global remembrance, to recognize all babies\ngone too soon; and instruct the Directors of Public Health, Health Services,\nMental Health and Personnel, to work to implement efforts to activate community\nstakeholders and community-based organizations, with a proven record of\nproviding direct service, to provide education, and create community healing\nand understanding for families of pregnancy and infant loss, and provide\nresidents with information about available resources, services support, other\nactivities, events, and education through links on the Departments of Public\nHealth, Health Services, Mental Health and Human Resources' County websites.\n(23-3587)\nAttachments: Motion by Supervisor Mitchell\nPublic Comment/Correspondence
