19. Proclaiming August 2023 as “Black Business Month”\nRecommendation as submitted by Supervisor Mitchell: Proclaim the month of\nAugust 2023 as “Black Business Month” throughout Los Angeles County; and\ninstruct the Director of Economic Opportunity to support Black Business Month\nactivities including, but not limited to, coordinating County small business\nresources at the Black Business Association's First Annual Black Business Day\nevent, including small business legal support, small business counseling, and\naccess to the subsidized wages programs; organizing business certification\nworkshops for small businesses to become certified vendors in the County’s\ncontracting preference program as Local Small Business Enterprises\nCommunity Business Enterprises, Social Enterprises, and/or Disabled Veteran\nBusiness Enterprises; organizing a “Doing Business with Los Angeles County”\nworkshop, in coordination with the Director of Internal Services, to increase\nawareness of the County’s procurement opportunities and the process of\nprocuring with the County; promoting Black Business Month activities through\nthe Department of Economic Opportunity’s website and social media platforms;\nand, serving as the County liaison between other County Departments and\ncommunity-based organizations, to promote and collaborate on Black Business\nMonth activities.
