27. Supporting Breast/Chestfeeding in Los Angeles County\nRecommendation as submitted by Supervisor Hahn: Proclaim the month of\nAugust 2023 as “National Breastfeeding Month,” the week of August 1 through\n7, 2023 as “World Breastfeeding Week,” the week of August 8 through 14,\n2023 as “Indigenous Milk Medicine Week,” the week of August 15 through 21,\n2023 as “Asian American Native Hawaiian Pacific Islander Breastfeeding\nWeek,” the week of August 25 through 31, 2023 as “Black Breastfeeding\nWeek,” and the week of September 5 through 11, 2023 as “Lactancia Latina\nWeek,” with the goals of advancing breast/chestfeeding as part of good\nnutrition, health protection, food security, and poverty reduction; and take the\nfollowing actions:\nInstruct the Director of Public Health, and other relevant County\nDepartment Heads, to implement feasible County and public educational\nactivities, in collaboration with community partners, that promote the\nvalue and importance of breast/chestfeeding, including for those with\ndevelopmental and physical disabilities, as well as recommended\nstrategies for those who require medications to manage conditions; and\nreport back to the Board in writing in 90 days on the status of\nimplementing recommendations from their September 19, 2022 report\nentitled, “National Breastfeeding Month and Increasing Los Angeles\nCounty Support for Breastfeeding or Chestfeeding,” as well as additional\nopportunities that would be available if new resources were identified and\npotential funding opportunities to support a countywide breastfeeding\ncoordinator; and\nEncourage all County Departments, particularly managers and\nsupervisors, to provide supportive environments, spaces, and appropriate\nbreak times for lactating parents, with all Departments to work with the\nDepartment of Human Resources’ Countywide Lactation Program to\nensure each County facility, owned or leased, has lactation spaces in\naccordance with existing County policy.
