10. Action for American Heart Month 2023\nRecommendation as submitted by Supervisor Solis: Proclaim the month of\nFebruary 2023 as “Los Angeles County Heart Month,” affirming the County’s\ncommitment to fighting cardiovascular disease; instruct the Director of Public\nHealth, in collaboration with the Directors of Health Services and Aging and\nDisabilities, and the Interim Directors of Mental Health and Public Social\nServices, and other relevant Departments, to take the following actions:\nEngage with health plans to promote evidence-based interventions to\nprevent heart disease, such as home blood pressure monitoring,\nreducing copays for antihypertensive medications, and removing\npre-authorization for treatments that improve overall cardiovascular\nhealth;\nProvide resources, messaging, and best practices to promotoras and\ncommunity health workers to help prevent and/or manage complications\nfrom heart disease;\nEngage with community-based organizations, academia, labor, and\nemployers to promote strategies spearheaded by the American Heart\nAssociation to support cardiovascular and cerebrovascular health;\nImplement a public messaging campaign utilizing social and ethnic media\nand distributing materials to promote heart health to key community\npartners to increase awareness of best practices for heart-health care;\nConnect these efforts with the Department of Public Health’s efforts,\npursuant to Board Order No. 18 of November 15, 2022, “Healthy Food\nAccess for Diabetes and Prediabetes Prevention;” and\nReport back to the Board in writing in 90 days with the results of the\nabove directives.
