(20) 23-0294 ECONOMIC AND COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT COMMITTEE REPORT relative to accepting up $1.65 million in Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act (WIOA) Additional Assistance Dislocated Worker Grant Funds from the California Employment Development Department (EDD) to assist dislocated workers associated with the closure of Smithfield Distribution, LLC and Smithfield Packaged Meats Corp (Farmer John). Recommendations for Council action, SUBJECT TO THE APPROVAL OF THE MAYOR: ACCEPT up to $1.65 million in WIOA Additional Assistance Dislocated Worker Grant funds from the EDD to provide workforce development emergency support services and supportive services to individuals impacted by the closure of the of Smithfield Distribution, LLC and Smithfield Packaged Meats Corp (Farmer John) in Vernon, California. ALLOCATE the $1.65 million in WIOA Additional Assistance Dislocated Worker Grant funds as follows: Agency Amount Economic and Workforce Development Department (EWDD) $165,000 Equus Workforce Solutions $400,000 Pacific Asian Consortium in Employment $400,000 To Be Determined $685,000 Total: $1,650,000 AUTHORIZE the Controller to: Establish a receivable within the WIOA Fund No. 57W from the EDD for $1,650,000.
