(38) 24-0127 CONSIDERATION OF MOTION (HUTT – KREKORIAN – PARK) relative to protecting the intellectual property of political campaigns. Recommendations for Council action: REQUEST the City Ethics Commission, in consultation with the City Attorney’s Office, to report to the Council with recommendations to ensure that all campaign communications available on the Commission’s website are encrypted with a watermark so that documents posted cannot be abused by opponents to making false claims of ethics violations, creating deep fakes, and other nefarious purposes meant to confuse voters and the media. REQUEST the City Ethics Commission to report to the Council with recommendations on how to regulate the use of artificial intelligence, deep fakes, and other technological abuses in political campaigns for City office.
