(31) 240411 CD 15 TRADE, TRAVEL AND TOURISM COMMITTEE REPORT relative to requesting the Port of Los Angeles (POLA) to report with an analysis of the conditions and circumstances that led to the collapse of Baltimore's Francis Scott Key Bridge and, in consultation with the Port of Long Beach (POLB), to report on the existing coordinated emergency planning response plans for similar events in the San Pedro Bay Complex. Recommendations for Council action, pursuant to Motion (McOsker Krekorian): Friday 1. REQUEST - April 26, 2024 the POLA - to report to the Council withPAGE 32 of the an analysis conditions and circumstances that led to the collapse of Baltimore’s requesting the Port of Los Angeles (POLA) to report with an analysis of the conditions and circumstances that led to the collapse of Baltimore's Francis Scott Key Bridge and, in consultation with the Port of Long Beach (POLB), to report on the existing coordinated emergency planning response plans for similar events in the San Pedro Bay Complex. Recommendations for Council action, pursuant to Motion (McOsker Krekorian): 1. REQUEST the POLA to report to the Council with an analysis of the conditions and circumstances that led to the collapse of Baltimore’s Francis Scott Key Bridge. This report should include comparative and contrasting analyses of the conditions and circumstances associated with the Vincent Thomas Bridge in the POLA. Such analyses should include the presence or absence of shields, or “diverters” at the base support of bridges, that can be used to prevent damage from ship collisions. 2. REQUEST the POLA, in consultation with the POLB, to report to the Council on the existing coordinated emergency planning response plans, should such an event similar to the collapse of Baltimore’s Francis Scott Key Bridge occur in the San Pedro Bay Complex. Fiscal Impact Statement: Neither the City Administrative Officer nor the Chief Legislative Analyst has completed a financial analysis of this report.
