(18) 240864 CD 7 NEIGHBORHOODS AND COMMUNITY ENRICHMENT COMMITTEE REPORT relative to establishing a permanent memorial at Sunland Park, proposal for alternate forms of memorialization or marker of the California Grizzly, its associated costs, and related matters. Recommendations for Council action, pursuant to Motion (Rodriguez – Hernandez): 1. DIRECT the Department of Cultural Affairs (DCA), with the assistance of the Department of Recreation and Parks (RAP), and any other relevant departments, to report to Council with recommendations for establishing a permanent memorial at Sunland Park. The report should include a proposal for alternate forms of memorialization or marker of the California Grizzly, its associated costs, and recommendations for securing funding from philanthropic donations or grants to support its creation. 2. DIRECT the DCA, working in partnership with the RAP, and relevant historical and conservation organizations, to report to Council on how an educational campaign at Sunland Park could also be used to educate the public about the enduring legacy of the California Grizzly. Fiscal Impact Statement: Neither the City Administrative Officer nor the Chief Legislative Analyst has completed a financial analysis of this report.
