(22) 24­0688 GOVERNMENT OPERATIONS COMMITTEE REPORT relative to supporting the Community Investment for Families Department (CIFD) Language Access Program. Recommendations for Council action, pursuant to Motion (Blumenfield – Soto­Martinez – Hernandez): 1.  INSTRUCT the Information Technology Agency (ITA), with the assistance of the Chief Legislative Analyst (CLA), to: a.  Support the CIFD Language Access Program. b.  Explore the feasibility of utilizing artificial intelligence (AI) technologies to enhance language access services within the City. c.  Report on evaluating current language access needs, assessing available AI tools and platforms, estimating potential costs and benefits, and identifying any necessary partnerships or collaborations. 2.  INSTRUCT the CIFD to report to Council with recommendations for incorporating technology tools to address the language needs of - October 1, 2024 - b.  Explore the feasibility of utilizing artificial intelligence (AI) technologies to enhance language access services within the City. c.  Report on evaluating current language access needs, assessing available AI tools and platforms, estimating potential costs and benefits, and identifying any necessary partnerships or collaborations. 2.  INSTRUCT the CIFD to report to Council with recommendations for incorporating technology tools to address the language needs of Angelenos, per Council file No. 22­1262, in a way that supports and enhances the work of paid interpreters and Department staff. 3.  INSTRUCT the ITA, with the assistance of the CLA, City Clerk, and Department on Disability, to report to Council with recommended tools and technologies to improve language access for public meetings. Fiscal Impact Statement: Neither the City Administrative Officer nor the CLA has completed a financial analysis of this report.
