18. 26-54777\nRecommendation to request City Manager to work with relevant departments to\nbegin the process in amending and updating the Long Beach Municipal Code,\nChapter 5.81 “Tobacco Retail Permit” to include required distances, or “buffer\nzones,” between smoke shops, tobacco retailers, and/or smoking lounges and\nyouth-oriented areas (i.e. schools, daycare centers, playgrounds, libraries, parks,\nrecreation facilities, youth programming events that occur at parks, etc.) and elder\ncare facilities (nursing homes, convalescent homes, etc.), and report back to\ncouncil within 120 days.\nOffice or Department:\nMegan Kerr, Councilwoman, Fifth District; Tunua\nThrash-Ntuk, Councilwoman, Eighth District\nSuggested Action:\nApprove recommendation.
