Agenda Item 13

13. APPROPRIATION FROM THE EQUIPMENT FUND RESERVE FOR THE PURCHASE\nOF ONE PATROL VEHICLE FOR THE ALHAMBRA POLICE DEPARTMENT – F2M25-\n17, M2M26-86\nOn December 12, 2025, K-9 Patrol Vehicle Unit 560 was involved in a traffic collision while\non duty, sustaining extensive damage. Following inspection, the insurance adjuster\ndetermined the vehicle to be a total loss. The California Joint Powers Insurance Authority\n(JPIA) issued an insurance settlement to the City in the amount of $50,892.95. Due to\ncurrent market conditions and the cost of purchasing and outfitting a replacement patrol\nvehicle, the insurance proceeds are insufficient to cover the full replacement costs. Staff\nis requesting authorization for additional funds from the Equipment Fund Reserves to\ncover the shortfall of $10,669.14, which, after vehicle purchase and labor outfitting, is\nestimated at approximately $61,562.09.\nRecommended Action: City Council approve an appropriation of $10,669.14 from\nthe Equipment Fund Reserve, for the purchase of one police patrol vehicle, and direct staff\nto undertake the steps necessary to finalize the Council’s action.
