Agenda Item 26
26. AMENDMENT TO THE AGREEMENT WITH VERDUGO CITIES FOR FIRE AND\nEMERGENCY MEDICAL DISPATCHING AND ADDITIONAL APPROPRIATIONS –\nF2M5-70, C2M5-52, C2M11-6, M2M23-108\nThe City has been contracting with Verdugo Cities for fire and emergency medical\ndispatching services since 2005. Verdugo currently provides dispatch services for all\nthirteen agencies in Area “C”. Under Area “C”, agencies are better able to coordinate\nemergency fire and medical resources throughout the area and cities also benefit from a\nsuperior level of mutual aid with lower response times and increased staffing levels on\nsignificant fire and medical incidents. The term of the proposed Verdugo agreement will\nbe three years effective July 1, 2023 and will renew automatically after June 30, 2026 for\ntwo terms of three years each unless Alhambra notifies Verdugo of its intent to withdraw.\nThe annual per incident rate may be increased each fiscal year by an amount not to\nexceed 5%.\nRecommended Action: City Council approve an amendment, subject to final\nlanguage approval by the City Manager and City Attorney, to the agreement with Verdugo\nCities and authorize the extensions if the services are satisfactory, to continue fire and\nemergency medical dispatching services commencing July 1, 2023 through June 30, 2026\nwith two three-year contract extension periods; authorize additional appropriations to\nsatisfy upcoming fiscal year budget expenditures related to this contract; and, direct staff\nto undertake the steps necessary to finalize Council’s action.
