6. Industry Indians: Investigation and Outcome of Deputy Gangs in the Los\nAngeles County Sheriff’s Department and Status Update on the Los\nAngeles County Sheriff’s Department’s Deputy Gang Policy\nRecommendation as submitted by Supervisor Solis: Request the Sheriff and his\nConstitutional Policy Advisor to report back to the Sheriff Civilian Oversight\nCommission’s Deputy Gang Ad Hoc Committee in writing in 14 days on the\nfollowing:\nTheir investigation into the Industry Indians and the Industry Station: how\nlong the Industry Indians have been in existence; other incidents of\nmisconduct that were linked to the Industry Indians deputy gang or to the\nIndustry Station; impact on community members and the communities\nwithin the service area of the Industry Station; how many investigations\nwere conducted as a result of any misconduct, criminal behavior, and\nactivities; any ongoing investigations; quality of the investigations\nconducted; and what, if any, early warning signs were ignored of deputy\ngang behavior at the Sheriff’s Department’s Industry Station;\nOutcome of that investigation;\nOngoing steps and actions taken to address deputy gangs in the Sheriff’s\nDepartment;\nStatus of the Sheriff’s Department’s gang policy; and\nCommunity engagement plan, in conjunction with the Civilian Oversight\nCommission, to restore faith, trust, and confidence in the impacted\ncommunities due to the Industry Indians and Industry Station\nmisconduct;\nInstruct the Inspector General and the Sheriff Civilian Oversight Commission’s\nDeputy Gang Ad Hoc Committee, to independently review and analyze the\nSheriff Department’s report and report back to the Board with an analysis and\nrecommendations, in writing, 14 days after receipt of the Sheriff’s Department’s\nreport back; and\nRequest the Sheriff and his Constitutional Policy Unit Advisor, and instruct the\nInspector General, and the Executive Director and Chair of the Sheriff Civilian\nOversight Commission, to report back to the Board verbally at the March 12,\n2024 Board meeting, and provide a verbal presentation to the Civilian Oversight\nCommission, shortly thereafter, on items listed above.
