3. Proclaiming “Lunar New Year 2024” and Memorializing the One-Year\nAnniversary of the Star Ballroom Mass Shooting in the City of Monterey\nPark and Heroic Efforts of Brandon Tsay at the Lai Lai Ballroom in the\nCity of Alhambra\nRecommendation as submitted by Supervisors Solis and Horvath: Proclaim\nFebruary 10, 2024 as the start of the “Lunar New Year” throughout Los Angeles\nCounty and join with our Asian and Pacific Islander (AAPI) residents in\nushering in the Year of the Dragon; recognize the cities of Monterey Park and\nAlhambra for their steadfast efforts in healing their communities in the aftermath\nof the tragedy which occurred at the Star and Lai Lai Ballrooms on January 21,\n2023; recognize the efforts of community-based organizations, such as\nAdvancing Justice Southern California, the Buddhist Tzu Chi Foundation, and\nthe Chinatown Service Center, along with our County Departments like the\nDepartment of Mental Health, the District Attorney’s Victim Services Bureau,\nand the Sheriff’s Department, and other local first responders, for their efforts\nin providing continued critical services and support for those affected by the\ntragedy; instruct the Chief Executive Officer, through the County\nCommunications Branch, to promote all County Lunar New Year events on the\nCounty’s website and social media platforms, including ensuring information is\nprovided in highly utilized AAPI languages; and instruct the Director of Mental\nHealth to promote mental health services and resources to AAPI communities\nthat may have been directly or indirectly impacted by the mass shooting and\nensuring information is provided in highly utilized AAPI languages.
