19. Thank You for Your Service: Proclaiming March 2024 as “Veteran\nWomen’s Month” and Improving Support for Veteran Women\nRecommendation as submitted by Supervisors Solis and Horvath: Proclaim\nMarch 2024 as “Veteran Women’s Month;” instruct the Chief Executive Officer,\nthrough its County Communications Branch, to work with the Departments to\npromote Veteran Women’s Month on the County’s websites and social media\nduring March 2024; instruct the Director of Military and Veterans Affairs to\ncollaborate with the Directors of Mental Health, Public Health, Health Services,\nChildren and Family Services and Public Social Services, Gender-Based\nViolence Workgroup, and other relevant Department Heads, within 30 days to\ndo the following:\nSecure a consultant within 60 days, after the passage of the motion,\nthrough philanthropic resources and authorize the Director of Military\nand Veterans Affairs to execute an agreement with the identified\nconsultant to conduct a gap analysis and assessment on the availability\nof County gender-specific resources and services for veteran women,\nsuch as supporting single veteran women;\nConduct focus groups and community meetings involving veteran women,\ncommunity-based service providers who work with veteran women, and\nother relevant individuals and organizations, to identify needs,\nopportunities for legislative advocacy, and services for veteran women;\nand\nWork with the Chief Executive Officer, through the Legislative Affairs and\nIntergovernmental Relations Branch, to identify possible legislative asks\nand actions to promote funding, support, and opportunities for\ngender-specific resources, services, and legislative advocacy for veteran\nwomen for the Board to consider supporting; and\nInstruct the Director of Military and Veterans Affairs to report back to the Board\nin writing in 90 days, after securing the consultant, with information gathered\nthrough the above directives, a recommended plan that is trauma-informed,\nmultidiscipline, and multiagency on how the County can best support veteran\nwomen.
