17. Proclaiming March 2024 as “National Nutrition Month”\nRecommendation as submitted by Supervisors Horvath and Hahn: Declare the\nmonth of March 2024 as “National Nutrition Month” throughout Los Angeles\nCounty, and adopt a proclamation; instruct the Director of Aging and\nDisabilities, through its Area Agency on Aging, to continue efforts of providing\nnutritious meals for older adults that are approved by registered dietitian\nnutritionists and promote physical activity habits through its nutrition service\nproviders, and to the extent possible, align these efforts with relevant\nrecommendations on nutrition security outlined in the Los Angeles County Food\nEquity Roundtable’s Action Plan; instruct the Director of Aging and Disabilities,\nin collaboration with the Director of Public Health and other relevant County\nDepartments, to launch an effort to encourage residents and interested groups\nto observe the month of March 2024 with appropriate activities that promote the\nimportance of making informed food choices, such as promoting “National\nNutrition Month” at the workplace, utilizing MyPlate as a visual tool to make\nhealthy meal choices, trying new fruit or vegetables each week, promoting\nplant-based foods and lower sodium options when feasible, organizing a virtual\nor in-person healthy potluck, picking a meatless day, exploring food recovery\noptions in your community, or even starting a walking club with your\nco-workers; and instruct the Chief Sustainability Officer, which administers the\nCommunity Food Resources Grant program, a Board-approved American\nRescue Plan Act (ARPA) program, to evaluate any additional funding needed to\nprovide grants to applicants already in queue and direct the Chief Executive\nOfficer to evaluate the feasibility of reallocating available ARPA funding to\nsupport the program’s needs.
