6. Celebrating Foster Youth and National “Foster Care Month”\nRecommendation as submitted by Supervisors Horvath and Barger: Proclaim\nMay 2024 as “Foster Care Month” throughout Los Angeles County; encourage\nfamilies and other members of the community to consider the benefits and\nrewards of becoming a resource or adoptive parent by visiting\nFosterLAKids.org and JuntosConLosNinos.org , or becoming a forever friend by\nvisiting ForeverFriendsLA.org; and take the following actions:\nInstruct the Director of Children and Family Services to promote and\noutreach to invite the public to the following events: May 18, 2024 -\nResource Parent Recruitment Expo at Glory Christian Fellowship in\nTorrance, and May 21, 2024 - Resource Parent Appreciation Event at\nShepherd Church in Woodland Hills;\nInstruct the Director of Children and Family Services to report back to\nthe Board in writing in 60 days on the feasibility and timing of adding\nthree Career Development Intern positions to support the Department of\nChildren and Family Services’ (DCFS’) Office of Equity work across its\nthree focus areas - LGBTQ+ Program, Eliminating Racial\nDisproportionality and Disparity Program, and the Women and Girls\nProgram, including exploring existing positions and funding within DCFS\nthat can be used for this purpose; and\nRequest the Youth Commission to work with the Board Offices, the City\nof Los Angeles, and the Director of Children and Family Services, to\nensure maximum County and youth participation in 2025’s National\nFoster Youth Initiative’s Foster Youth Shadow Day.
