SDFD is only seeking authority for use.\nCouncil District(s) Affected: Citywide.\nProposed Actions:\n(R-2024-515)\nResolution approving the Mission Bay and Ocean Beach Pier Camera System technology\npursuant to the Transparent and Responsible Use of Surveillance Technology Ordinance.\nCommittee Actions Taken:\nThis item was heard at the Public Safety Committee meeting on April 25, 2024.\nACTION: Motion by Chair von Wilpert, second by Committee member Campbell, to\napprove a Resolution authorizing the use of The Mission Bay and Ocean Beach (OB) Pier\nUrban Area Security Initiative (UASI) Camera System (Camera System) pursuant to the\nTransparent and Responsible Use of Surveillance Technology Ordinance, with the\nfollowing requirements met based on the staff report and other back up materials; (A) the\nbenefits to the community of the City's acquisition and use of the surveillance technology\noutweigh the cost; (B) the proposed use of the surveillance technology will safeguard civil\nrights and; (C) based on the facts and information presented to City Council, there is no\neffective alternative to the proposed surveillance technology that provides a lesser\nfinancial cost to the City and impact on civil rights or civil liberties.\nVOTE: 3-0; von Wilpert-yea, Campillo-yea, Campbell-yea, Whitburn-not present.\nFire-Rescue: Assistant Fire Chief John Wood, (619) 572-5690\nCity Attorney Contact: Daniel Orloff
