Item 58: First Amendment to the Agreement with Regents of the University of California, San\nDiego (UCSD) for the Scripps Institution of Oceanography (SIO) to Evaluate\nAnthropogenic Impacts on the San Diego Coastal Kelp Forest Ecosystem (2024-\n2029).\nTotal Estimated Cost of Proposed Action and Funding Source:\nThis amendment increases the not-to-exceed amount of the original as-needed agreement\nby $4,710,510 to a total of $8,264,631 over a five-year term which expires June 30, 2029.\nExpenditure of funds for as needed services is contingent upon sufficient funding being\navailable in the Public Utilities Department’s budget each fiscal year.\nCouncil District(s) Affected: Citywide.\nProposed Actions:\nAdopt the following Ordinance which was introduced on 5/14/2024, Item 61, Subitem-B\n(Council voted 9-0):\n(O-2024-105 Cor. Copy)\nOrdinance authorizing the Mayor, or his designee, to execute Amendment No. 1 to the\nContract with Regents of the University of California, San Diego for the Scripps\nInstitution of Oceanography, extending the Contract through June 30, 2029, and\nincreasing the not-to-exceed amount by $4,710,510, in connection with the evaluation of\nanthropogenic impacts on the coastal kelp forests.\n6 votes required pursuant to Charter Section 99.\nCommittee Actions Taken:\nThis item was heard at the Environment Committee meeting on April 11, 2024.\nACTION: Motion by Vice Chair von Wilpert, second by Committee member Campbell,\nto recommend Council approval of staff’s proposed actions.\nVOTE: 3-0; LaCava-yea, von Wilpert-yea, Campbell-yea, Elo-Rivera-not present.\nPublic Utilities: Ryan Kempster, (619) 758-2329\nCity Attorney Contact: Justin Stanek
