19. LETTER OF SUPPORT: SB 2 – STRENGTHENING CALIFORNIA’S CONCEALED-\nCARRY LAWS – F2M23-7, M2M23-30\nAt the February 13, 2023 Council meeting, Councilmember Pérez requested the Council’s\nsupport to bring forward a letter supporting recent gun safety efforts and legislation aimed\nat strengthening California’s concealed-carry laws. SB 2, authored by Senator Portantino,\nwill implement significant improvements to California’s existing conceal-carry weapon\n(CCW) laws to address the recent United States Supreme Court decision in New York\nRifle and Pistol Association v. Bruen. The Governor and Attorney General are sponsors\nof SB 2.\nRecommended Action: City Council approve that certain letter of support for SB 2\n(Portantino) strengthening California’s concealed-carry laws, a copy of which letter is on\nfile in the City Clerk’s Office as File No. F2M23-7 and by this reference incorporated herein\nand made a part of as though fully set forth herein; and, direct staff to undertake the steps\nnecessary to finalize Council’s action.
