9. SECOND READING AND ADOPTION OF AN ORDINANCE UPDATING THE PRIMA\nFACIE SPEED LIMITS IN THE CITY – F96-33, F2M14-9, O2M24-4839\nThe City of Alhambra’s Public Works Department completed an Engineering and Traffic\nSurvey (Speed Survey) for 88 street segments citywide and prepared the City of Alhambra\n2023/2024 Engineering and Traffic Survey. The purpose of an engineering and traffic\nsurvey is to establish updated speed limits that can be legally enforced using radar at pre-\ndetermined locations. The City of Alhambra’s 2023/2024 Engineering and Traffic Survey\ndetermined that 9 segment locations are eligible for a 5 MPH reduction in the posted speed\nlimit. These segment locations are outlined in the Director of Public Works & Utilities’\nAugust 26, 2024 staff report. Adoption of an ordinance is necessary to set the speed limits\non those road segments identified in the report that are outside of a residential district and\nare not otherwise subject to the Vehicle Code’s prima facia speed limit.\nThe City of Alhambra 2023/2024 Engineering and Traffic Survey can be found online here:\nhttps://ca-alhambra.civicplus.com/DocumentCenter/View/5703/City-of-Alhambra-City-Wide-Speed-Survey-DRAFT\nRecommended Action: City Council declare introduced for its second reading and\nadopt the following ordinance entitled:\nOrdinance No. O2M24-4839: An Ordinance of the Alhambra City Council\namending Chapter 11.08 of the Alhambra Municipal Code to update prima\nfacie speed limits in the City
