FIRST AMENDMENT TO THE CONTRACT SERVICES AGREEMENT FOR\nCITY ATTORNEY LEGAL SERVICES WITH BEST, BEST, & KRIEGER\nATTORNEYS AT LAW\nSummary:\nThe City contracts for legal services with a municipal law firm called Best, Best,\nand Krieger (BB&K). The City Council recently completed its annual review of\nthe City Attorney’s performance and found that BB&K continues providing\nexcellent service to the City Council and staff. Considering its high level of\nservice and to ensure uninterrupted legal services, the City Council directed staff\nto negotiate an amendment to the existing City Attorney Legal Services. The\nproposed First Amendment would continue the term of the agreement until\notherwise terminated by the City Council, adjust hourly rates by $10 per hour\nstarting July 1, 2025, and again on July 1, 2026, and cap future annual cost of\nliving adjustments at 2.5% per year.\nStaff concluded that the terms of the proposed amendment are reasonable and\nwithin the market for legal services. The City’s ongoing revenues support the\nadjustment to the proposed rates.
