C. Extension of Additional Operational Funding Support to the Volunteers in Defense\nof Animals ( VIDA) for Animal Shelter and Care Services\nVolunteers in Defense of Animals ( VIDA) plays a critical role in ensuring the well-\nbeing of abandoned, stray, and surrendered animals, providing animals with shelter,\nmedical care, and adoption services. hi the past few years, VIDA has experienced a\nsignificant increase in costs associated with animal care, staffing, and facility\nmaintenance and decrease in pet adoptions. The proposed extension of operational\nfunding support for the calendar year 2025 would enable VIDA to avoid closure.\nThe Public Safety Department continues to be pleased with the services that VIDA\nprovides. Therefore, staff is recommending that the City Council approve the\nextension of the additional operational funding support totaling $ 3, 000 per month\nand not -to -exceed $ 36, 000 for calendar year from January 1, 2025 — December 31,\n2025, to ensure the shelter' s continued operation and quality care to animals.\nRecommendation: That the City Council authorize the City Manager to execute the\nSecond Amendment to the Agreement with Volunteers in Defense of Animals on\nbehalf of the City for the additional operational funding support totaling $ 3, 000 per\nmonth and not -to -exceed $ 36, 000 for calendar year from January 1, 2025—\nDecember 31, 2025.
