F.3. RESPONSIBLE PET OWNER EDUCATION CAMPAIGN [L. MEISTER, Y.\nQUARKER, A. LOVANO, J. DEL TORO]:\nSUBJECT: The City Council will consider directing staff to develop an education\ncampaign that promotes responsible pet ownership, with a specific focus on\nencouraging pet owners to clean up after their pets, addressing the community\nimpacts of lack of proper pet waste disposal, and reminding people to use a leash\nwhen required.\nRECOMMENDATIONS: 1) Direct the Communications Department to develop a\ncommunity education campaign to promote responsible pet ownership, with a\nspecific focus on encouraging pet owners to clean up after their pets, addressing\nthe community impacts of lack of proper pet waste disposal, and reminding people\nto use a leash when required; 2) Direct the Communications Department to utilize\nall appropriate communications tools to promote the effort such as the City’s\nwebsite, social media tools, and a news release; 3) Direct the Rent Stabilization\nDivision to include information about the campaign in the next iteration of bi-\nannual Tenant and Landlord Newsletters; 4) Direct the Facilities and Field\nServices Division to examine the need for additional signage in parks and other\nkey areas to help amplify the message; and 5) Authorize the Director of Finance\n& Technology Services to allocate $5,000 from budgeted funds in the Special\nCouncil Programs account number 100-1-01-00-531001 for costs associated with\nthe campaign.
