10.4 Discussion of Immigration Issues\nDiscussion of recent developments regarding immigration issues in\nresponse to statements from the incoming federal administration.\nImmigration issues were a large part of the discourse surrounding the\nNovember 2024 Presidential elections and the incoming federal\nadministration has openly disclosed intentions for deportation of\nimmigrants. The City of Bell Gardens values the dignity, inclusivity,\ncompassion, and respect for all residents, regardless of their\nimmigration status. The City continues to protect residents in\naccordance with California Senate Bill 54 (SB 54), sometimes referred\nto as the “Sanctuary State” law, which was signed into law and went\ninto effect on January 1, 2018, which limits the involvement of law\nenforcement and other agencies in immigration enforcement. In\naddition, the City continues efforts in the areas of monitoring federal\nimmigration efforts, outreach, referrals, and assistance to residents\nwith immigration status concerns.\nRecommendation: It is staff’s recommendation that the City Council\nreceive and file this report.
