F.9. FIRE & WIND SAFETY AND EMERGENCY PREPAREDNESS [J. HEILMAN,\nC. BYERS, Y. QUARKER, A. LOVANO, J. DEL TORO]:\nSUBJECT: The City Council will consider directing staff to evaluate the existing\nemergency plan in place for addressing wildfires and severe wind, review the\nCity’s response to the recent fires in Los Angeles County, and take appropriate\nsteps to update protocols based on lessons learned and best practices.\nRECOMMENDATIONS: 1) Review the City’s existing emergency plan –\nincluding evacuation routes, emergency shelter locations outside of the City in\nthe event of a major incident, evacuation protocols for disabled residents – and\nupdate protocols based on lessons learned and best practices from the recent\nfires in Los Angeles County; 2) Intensely promote the Nixle alert system with a\ngoal of achieving 75% sign-ups in the West Hollywood community; 3) Identify\nappropriate opportunities during the year to recognize and thank the Los\nAngeles County Fire Department and the Los Angeles City Fire Department who\neffectively stopped the Sunset Fire from spreading to West Hollywood; 4)\nAuthorize the City Manager or his designee to provide City support above and\nbeyond what is currently outlined in mutual aid agreements if deemed necessary\nto assist areas devastated by recent fires; and 5) Provide further direction as\nappropriate to help the City of West Hollywood address future extreme wildfire\nand severe wind incidents and other emergencies.
