F.6. EXPLORATION OF CHILDCARE NEEDS & POTENTIAL SUPPORT [C.\nBYERS, Y. QUARKER, A. LOVANO, J. DEL TORO]:\nSUBJECT: The City Council will consider directing staff to explore policies,\nprograms, and reforms that may help increase access to affordable, accessible\nchildcare for current and future West Hollywood families and community\nmembers.\nRECOMMENDATIONS: 1) Direct staff to explore policies, programs, and reforms\nto address the topic of increasing the availability and affordability of childcare for\nfamilies living and working in the West Hollywood community; 2) Direct staff to\ninvite community members, representatives from the State and County\ngovernment, and other relevant stakeholders, including advocacy groups and\ncommunity organizations, to participate in a town hall discussion on the topic of\nchildcare; 3) Authorize the Director of Finance and Technology Services to\nallocate $2,000 from unallocated General Fund reserves to the Special Council\nPrograms Account 100-1-01-00-531001 for costs associated with this direction,\nand increase the budget for Special Council Programs by the same amount; 4)\nAuthorize the Director of Finance & Technology Services to allocate $2,000 from\nbudgeted funds in the Special Council Programs account number 100-1-01-00-\n531001 for costs associated with this event; 5) Direct the Communications\nDepartment to utilize all appropriate communication tools to promote the\ninformation session including, but not limited to, the City’s website, a press\nrelease, and social media tools; and 6) Direct staff to return to Council with the\nresults of the community engagement and staff’s research to discuss next steps.
