36.\nSECOND READING AND ADOPTION OF AN ORDINANCE AMENDING CHAPTER\n2.48 OF THE ALHAMBRA MUNICIPAL CODE CONCERNING PROMOTIONAL\nEXAMS – F2M25-2, O2M25-4846\nStaff requests that the City Council declare introduced for second reading and adopt an\nordinance amending Chapter 2.48 of the Alhambra Municipal Code concerning\npromotional exams. Periodically amendments are needed to the Alhambra Municipal\nCode (“AMC”) based upon changes in legislation and issues arising in implementation of\nthe AMC. This proposed ordinance makes amendments to AMC subsections 2.48.030\nand 2.48.090(B). The AMC currently prohibits part-time employees from applying for fulltime promotional examinations. This limits the available talent pool for positions and limits\nopportunities for part-time employees to advance their careers with the City. An\namendment to the two subsections cited is necessary to allow eligible part-time/hourly\nemployees to apply and to provide more promotional opportunities for the City’s parttime/hourly employees. The City Council gave first reading to this ordinance at the May\n12, 2025 Council meeting.\nRecommended Action:\nCity Council declare introduced for its second reading and\nadopt the following ordinance entitled:\nOrdinance No. O2M25-4846: An Ordinance of the Alhambra City Council\namending Chapter 2.48 of the Alhambra Municipal Code concerning\npromotional exams
