4. Affirmative Efforts to Foster the Educational Futures of Current and\nFormer Los Angeles County Foster Youth\nRecommendation as submitted by Supervisor Solis: Instruct the Director of\nChildren and Family services, in collaboration with the Superintendent of\nSchools of the Los Angeles County Office of Education, to develop an outreach\ncampaign to widely disseminate information about The Fostering Futures\nProgram (Program), including clear eligibility requirements and additional\nresources geared at assisting with the application process, to encourage\ncurrent and former foster youth to apply; through the use of staff and/or other\nresources, such as educational counselors, advocates, foster youth district\nliaisons, mentors, peer counselors, or others with experience navigating\neducation applications processes, to assist current foster youth with completion\nof the requisite steps and applications needed to qualify and apply for the\nProgram including, but not limited to, the Program application, a free application\nfor Federal Student Aid, a California Dream Act application, any other\napplications necessary to determine a student’s financial eligibility, and\napplications for all other Federal, State, or institutionally administered grants or\nfee waivers for which the student is eligible; and instruct the Superintendent of\nSchools for the Los Angeles County Office of Education, through the use of\nstaff and/or other resources, such as educational counselors, advocates, foster\nyouth district liaisons, mentors, peer counselors, or others with experience\nnavigating educational application processes, to assist former foster youth with\ncompletion of the requisite steps and applications needed to qualify and apply\nfor the Program, including, but not limited to, The Fostering Futures Program\napplication; a free application for Federal Student Aid; a California Dream Act\napplication; any other applications necessary to determine a student’s financial\neligibility; and applications for all other Federal, State, or institutionally\nadministered grants or fee waivers for which the student is eligible.
