15. Making Strides Against Breast Cancer Los Angeles Event\nRecommendation as submitted by Supervisors Mitchell and Hahn: Proclaim the\nmonth of October 2023 as “Breast Cancer Awareness Month,” to encourage\nprevention and early detection of breast cancer, as well as to provide support\nfor breast cancer patients and survivors; direct County Departments to support\nthe Making Strides Against Breast Cancer Los Angeles event on Saturday,\nOctober 21, 2023, by encouraging staff to participate and support fundraising\nefforts; and take the following actions:\nInstruct the Directors of Public Health and Mental Health to promote the\nevent on social media;\nInstruct the Director of Public Health to develop easy to understand\ngraphics and guidance on preventive screenings and other services\navailable to individuals diagnosed with breast cancer, with this collateral\nto be developed in the County’s most commonly spoken languages and in\nculturally sensitive manners;\nInstruct the Director of Mental Health to promote online tools, such as the\nAmerican Cancer Society’s “Reach to Recovery” website and app to\nprovide mental health support to women diagnosed with breast cancer;\nInstruct the County Department Public Information Officers to promote\nand distribute materials, in multiple languages, related to the Making\nStrides Against Breast Cancer Los Angeles event and promote the\nAmerican Cancer Society’s “Get Screened” campaign with special\nefforts to reach communities that have been historically marginalized;\nand\nDirect all County Departments’ Wellness Coordinators to promote the\n2023 Making Strides Against Breast Cancer Los Angeles event and\nencourage colleagues to participate and support it.
