21. The Creative Jobs Collective Impact Initiative and Declare Arts, Culture,\nand Creativity Month\nRecommendation as submitted by Supervisors Solis and Horvath: Declare the\nmonth of April 2023 as “Arts, Culture, and Creativity Month” throughout Los\nAngeles County, to celebrate and recognize the impact of our County’s arts and\ncreative industry and workforce in the State of California; support the goals of\nthe Creative Jobs Collective Impact Initiative (CJCII), which aims to create\nparity between the regional population demographics and creative workforce\nrepresentation, a sector-wide median entry-level wage that is at or above the\nregion’s living wage as determined by the Massachusetts Institute of\nTechnology’s living wage calculator, and 10,000 creative sector jobs centering\nyouth from historically underrepresented communities; and take the following\nactions:\nDirect the Chief Executive Officer, through the Legislative Affairs and\nIntergovernmental Relations Division, to support any State and/or Federal\nlegislation that supports this initiative;\nInstruct the Director of Economic Opportunity to join the Director of Arts\nand Culture to participate in the CJCII Steering Committee, a committee\nof diverse arts/community leaders within the County, and led by Arts for\nLA, to develop recommendations to meet CJCII goals;\nInstruct the Director of Arts and Culture and the Director of Economic\nOpportunity, as well as the Chief Executive Officer of Arts for LA, to\nreport back to the Board at the Board meeting of October 17, 2023 on\nthe opportunities identified by the CJCII Steering Committee; and\nDirect the Chief Executive Officer to explore the feasibility of funding\nStrategy 1 to Expand Grants to Organizations Serving Diverse\nCommunities in Arts and Culture’s Cultural Policy Strategic Plan to\nincrease funding for the Organizational Grant Program as previously\ndirected by the Board, to directly support the aims of CJCII to increase\ncreative job opportunities and drive more equitable outcomes throughout\nthe sector.
