(23)\n26-0002-S1\nRULES, ELECTIONS AND INTERGOVERNMENTAL RELATIONS\nCOMMITTEE REPORT and RESOLUTION relative to establishing the\nCity’s position on Assembly Bill (AB) 1537, would prohibit secondary\nemployment for peace officers with any entity that assists with or\nengages in immigration enforcement.\nRecommendations for Council action, as initiated by Resolution\n(Soto-Martinez – Rodriguez), SUBJECT TO THE CONCURRENCE\nOF THE MAYOR:\n1. RESOLVE to include in the City’s 2025 State Legislative\nProgram SUPPORT for AB 1537 to prohibit peace officers from\nbeing employed by, serving as an independent contractor for, or\nvolunteering with the United States Department of Homeland\nSecurity (DHS) or its contractors or any other entity that assists\nwith or engages in immigration enforcement.\n2. INSTRUCT the Chief Legislative Analyst (CLA) to prepare a\nrevised Resolution when this matter is before the City Council,\nto support AB 1537 (Bryan) and SEEK AMENDMENTS to clarify\nthat this legislation only applies to individuals directly engaged\nin immigration enforcement actions on behalf of the Department\nof Homeland Security.\nFiscal Impact Statement: None submitted by the CLA. The City\nAdministrative Officer has not completed a financial analysis of this\nreport.
