H. APPROVAL OF MEMORANDUM OF UNDERSTANDING WITH SAN GABRIEL\nUNIFIED SCHOOL DISTRICT FOR USE OF GABRIELINO HIGH SCHOOL\nCAMPUS AND APPROVAL OF AGREEMENT\nWITH GRIZZLY\nENTERTAINMENT FOR A DRONE, LASER AND DRONE PYROTECHNICS\nSHOW IN THE AMOUNT OF $67,500 FOR THE INDEPENDENCE DAY\nCELEBRATION\nThe first San Gabriel Independence Day Celebration was hosted on July 3, 2024\nat Gabrielino High School. New to the City and the region, the event culminated\nin a drone show. The following year, the City Council approved the expansion\nof the show to a drone, laser and light show. The San Gabriel Unified School\nDistrict (SGUSD) provides the use of the soccer/ baseball field, parking lots and\nthe football field to host the event and launch the drones for the show. The\n2026 Independence Day Celebration is scheduled to take place on July 3, 2026\nat Gabrielino High School with the same festival-style elements along with a\ndrone, laser and drone show (with drone pyrotechnics for one animation),\nending the night.\nCalifornia Environmental Quality Act (CEQA) Determination: Not a Project as\ndefined in Section 15378 of the State CEQA Guidelines.\nRecommended Action:\nStaff recommends that the City Council:\n1. Authorize the City Manager to execute an agreement with Grizzly\nEntertainment for a drone, laser and pyrotechnic drone show in the amount\nof $67,500 for the July 3, 2026, Independence Day Celebration; and\n2. Authorize the City Manager to execute a Memorandum of Understanding\nand any other necessary documents with SGUSD.\nAlternatives to the Staff Recommendations:\nShould the City Council not wish to approve the staff recommendation, the\nfollowing options are available:\n1. Authorize the City Manager to execute an agreement with Grizzly\nEntertainment for a drone and laser show only (no pyrotechnic drones) in\nthe amount of $60,000 for the July 3, 2026, Independence Day Celebration,\nand authorize the City Manager to execute a Memorandum of\nUnderstanding and any other necessary documents with SGUSD.\n2. Authorize the City Manager to execute an agreement with Grizzly\nEntertainment for a drone show only (no lasers and no pyrotechnic drones)\nin the amount of $45,000 for the July 3, 2026, Independence Day\nCelebration. Additionally, authorize the City Manager to execute a\nMemorandum of Understanding and any other necessary documents with\nSGUSD.\n3. Other options the City Council sees fit.
