HOUSING AND HOMELESSNESS COMMITTEE REPORT relative to
instructing the Los Angeles Housing Department (LAHD), with
assistance from the Community Investment Department, to report on a
program to utilize the Handyworker Program funding to support senior
citizens, and other low income persons, with smoke remediation tactics
such as HVAC remediation, odor neutralization, and the installation of
air filtration systems.
Recommendations for Council action, pursuant to Motion (Jurado -
Lee):
1. INSTRUCT LAHD, with assistance from the Community
Investment Department (CID), to report on the feasibility of
utilizing the Handyworker Program funding to support senior
citizens, and other low income persons, with smoke remediation
tactics such as HVAC remediation, odor neutralization, and the
installation of air filtration systems.
2. DIRECT LAHD, with assistance from CID, to report within 30
days of a program to utilize and disburse funds from the
Handyworker Program to support senior citizens, and other low
income persons, with smoke remediation efforts. The program
proposal should include details for proactive community
outreach, education materials on how to apply for funding,
qualification guidelines, and recommended award amount for
each recipient.
Fiscal Impact Statement: Neither the City Administrative Officer nor
the Chief Legislative Analyst has completed a financial analysis of this
report.
