G. INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY SERVER REPLACEMENT – APPROVAL TO\nPURCHASE HARDWARE AND SOFTWARE IN THE AMOUNT OF $52,382\nServers and related virtual server software are a critical part of the City’s\ninformation technology infrastructure. The City’s current servers are over 9\nyears old with an end-of-life designated for October 2023. The virtual server\nsoftware reached its end-of-life on October 2022 and is no longer supported\nby the software manufacturer. The costs for the purchase of four SuperMicro\nservers and a five-year support agreement is $46,881.59. The cost for the\nProxMox virtual server solution is about $1,000 per central processing unit and\nthe City has six sockets for a total of $6,000. The total cost for the hardware and\nsoftware solutions is $52,881.59.\nCalifornia Environmental Quality Act (CEQA) Determination: Not a Project as\ndefined in Section 15378 of the State CEQA Guidelines.\nRecommended Action:\nStaff recommends that the City Council purchase four SuperMicro servers from\nStrictlyTech, along with a five-year support agreement, in the amount of\n$46,881.59 as SuperMicro is the best option for the City with proven reliability,\nservices to the industry and has all the features the City needs to power its\nserver infrastructure. Furthermore, staff recommends that the City Council\nauthorize staff to purchase the server software solution from ProxMox in the\namount of $6,000 as it provides the best value for the City as staff has been\ntesting the software on existing City equipment for the last two months in its\ntest/production environment. The results are favorable and performed very well\non the old equipment.
