6. ACCEPT GRANT: OFFICE OF TRAFFIC SAFETY – SELECTIVE TRAFFIC\nENFORCEMENT PROGRAM – F2M23-18, F2M1-77, M2M23-138\nStaff requests that the City Council authorize staff to accept the Office of Traffic Safety\ngrant in the amount of $170,000. The goal of the Office of Traffic Safety is to reduce the\nnumber of persons killed or injured in crashes involving alcohol or other primary collision\nfactors through grant funding for local law enforcement agencies. The Alhambra Police\nDepartment intends to utilize the funding for the FY 2023-2024 Selective Traffic\nEnforcement Program to enhance community safety through various enforcement and\neducation programs. Such programs and services will include: DUI enforcement,\nawareness and education programs; bicycle and pedestrian safety enforcement and\neducation; participation in programs such as National Walk to School Day, National\nHighway Traffic Safety Administration Winter & Summer Mobilizations, National Bicycle\nSafety Month, National Teen Driver Safety Week, National Distracted Driving Awareness\nMonth, National Motorcycle Safety Month, National Child Passenger Safety Week, and\nCalifornia’s Pedestrian Safety Month.\nRecommended Action: City Council accept the State of California Office of Traffic\nSafety grant in the amount of $170,000 in Fiscal Year 2023-24; authorize the Chief of\nPolice to enter into a contract with the Office of Traffic Safety for grant implementation;\nand, direct staff to undertake the steps necessary to finalize Council’s action.
