9. LANG PARK PICKLEBALL ALTERNATIVES\nRecommendations:\n(1) Direct staff to reduce the hours of operation of the Lang Park pickleball courts\nin accordance with the following schedule, effective March 1, 2024: Monday –\nClosed, Tuesday – 8 a.m. to noon, Wednesday – 8 a.m. to dusk, Thursday – 8 a.m.\nto noon, Friday – 8 a.m. to dusk, Saturday – 8 a.m. to dusk, Sunday – 9 a.m. to 1\np.m.;\n(2) Direct staff to encourage and promote use of quiet paddles and balls at Lang\nPark, and mandate their use in City-sponsored pickleball classes;\n(3) Direct staff to purchase an initial order of 50 quiet pickleball paddles to sell at-\ncost to pickleball players to encourage use of the paddles at Lang Park; and\n(4) If, in addition to the mitigation measures at Lang Park proposed, City Council\nwould like to pursue alternate locations for pickleball play, select one or more\npotential sites for pickleball play and direct staff to proceed with environmental\nanalysis of pickleball courts at selected locations, and appropriate $80,000 from\nthe General Fund balance to perform the necessary analysis.\nAlternatively,\n(A) Determine that the Lang Park court is not suitable for pickleball play and\ndirect staff to resurface the court for tennis play only, effective March 1, 2024, or\nas soon as practicable; and\n(B) Select one or more potential sites for relocation of Lang Park pickleball play\nand direct staff to proceed with environmental analysis of pickleball courts at\nselected locations, and appropriate $80,000 from the General Fund balance to\nperform necessary analysis.
