CORRESPONDENCE FROM ACTIVE SGV REQUESTING A SUPPORT\nLETTER FOR A DECADES-LONG VISION TO PROTECT THE SAN\nGABRIEL MOUNTAINS AND USE THE ANTIQUITIES ACT TO ADD\n109,000 ACRES TO THE SAN GABRIEL MOUNTAINS NATIONAL\nMONUMENT\nIn 2014, President Barack Obama used the Antiquities Act to designate\napproximately 346,177 acres of the San Gabriel Mountains as a national\nmonument. This was a critical step towards permanently protecting the\nmountains. Since then, community support has continued to grow for\nsafeguarding public lands in the western Angeles Forest that were not\nincluded in the original monument designation. These lands are the\ngateway to the forest and welcome millions of visitors each year. They\nshould be included in the national monument.\nRECOMMENDED ACTION: Staff request direction to compose a support\nletter for the San Gabriel Mountains conservation requested by Active San\nGabriel Valley.
