12. AWARD CONTRACT: PURCHASE OF RESCUE TOOLS FOR NEW FIRE\nDEPARTMENT TRUCK – F2M24-6B, C2M24-21, M2M24-56\nWestern Extrication Specialists specializes in high-quality extrication tools, services, and\ntraining to customers. It is imperative that the Fire Department’s new truck is outfitted with\nfire and rescue equipment, technology, and the functional features of today’s fire trucks.\nThe Fire Department’s apparatuses are outfitted with Holmatro rescue tools, which are\ninterchangeable with the Holmatro tools that are being acquired. Maintaining the use of\nHolmatro tools will enhance compatibility, minimize errors, and reduce confusion during\nemergencies. It is important that all apparatuses be outfitted with comparable tools to\nultimately improve the Fire Department’s ability to respond to emergencies. Pursuant to\nAlhambra Municipal Code 3.36.080 (B)(2), the purchase method may be dispensed when\nthe equipment can only be obtained from one source (sole source). Therefore, staff\nrecommends the City Council award a contract to Western Extrication Specialists, the sole\nHolmatro dealer for California, and waive the bid process.\nRecommended Action: City Council award a contract, subject to final language\napproval by the City Manager and the City Attorney, to Western Extrication Specialists,\nInc. for the purchase of rescue tools for the new fire truck, in an amount not to exceed\n$85,135.77; and, direct staff to undertake the steps necessary to finalize the Council’s\naction.
