6.E. BUILDER’S REMEDY PROJECTS [J. HEILMAN, Y. QUARKER, A.\nLOVANO, J. DEL TORO]:\nSUBJECT: This item directs staff to provide the City Council with regular\nupdates on pending Builder’s Remedy applications in the City of West\nHollywood and to provide the City Council with a comprehensive plan for\naddressing these proposed projects.\nRECOMMENDATIONS: 1) Direct staff to provide the City Council with\nregular updates on the status of all pending Builder’s Remedy applications\nin the City of West Hollywood; 2) Direct staff and the City Attorney to work\nwith the City’s lobbyist to develop and implement a lobbying campaign in\nSacramento to exempt the City from current Builder’s Remedy proposals\nbased on the City’s track record of supporting and encouraging affordable\nhousing; 3) Direct the City Attorney to develop a comprehensive strategy\nto challenge Builder’s Remedy proposals that are inconsistent with the\nzoning code; and 4) Direct staff to meet with each entity proposing\nBuilder’s Remedy projects to determine potential opportunities to\nnegotiate alternative compromise paths to provide housing in a manner\nthat is more in line with city goals while avoiding costly and time-\nconsuming challenges if no resolutions are available through other\navenues.
