16. Proclaiming June 2024 as Silicosis Awareness Month\nRecommendation as submitted by Supervisors Horvath and Mitchell: Proclaim\nJune 2024 as “Silicosis Awareness Month” throughout Los Angeles County;\ninstruct the Director of Public Health, in collaboration with the Directors of\nHealth Services, Economic Opportunity and Mental Health, to continue\npartnering with the California Department of Public Health, the California\nDivision of Occupational Safety and Health, the City of Los Angeles,\ncommunity-based organizations, stone fabrication shops, and other\nstakeholders, to continue to educate and offer resources on the prevention and\nintervention of silicosis; instruct the Director of Public Works, through its\nBuilding and Safety Division, in consultation with County Counsel, the Director\nof Public Health, and the City of Los Angeles Department of Building and\nSafety, to include a clause in construction permits and the website about the\nrisks of using silica products, and the appropriate use of approved equipment to\nprotect from exposure of crystalline silica; and direct the Chief Executive\nOfficer, through the Legislative Affairs and Intergovernmental Relations Branch,\nand in collaboration with the Directors of Public Health and Health Services, to\ncontinue advocating in support of Assembly Bill 3043 (Rivas), “The Silicosis\nPrevention Act.” (24-2121)
