RESOLUTION APPROVING THE 2023 MILITARY EQUIPMENT ANNUAL\nREPORT AND RENEWING ORDINANCE NO 2022-06-1535\nSummary:\nOn September 30, 2021, Governor Newsom signed into law Assembly Bill (AB)\n481, which went into effect on January 1, 2022, and added the California\nGovernment Code Sections 7070 through 7075 relating to the funding,\nacquisition, and status and inventory of military equipment by local law\nenforcement agencies. The bill required law enforcement agencies seeking to\nfund or acquire new military equipment or continue use of any military equipment\nacquired prior to January 1, 2022, to draft a military equipment use policy and\nobtain approval from its governing body via adoption of an ordinance. AB 481\nalso requires law enforcement agencies to present an annual report to their\ngoverning body on the status and inventory of the equipment. The City Council\nwill consider adopting a resolution approving the 2023 Military Equipment\nAnnual Report and renewing Ordinance No. 2022-06-1535 in accordance with\nAssembly Bill 481.\nStrategic Plan Goal(s):\nGoal No. 2: Community Safety: Maintain community safety by supporting\npublic safety services and increasing emergency preparedness.\nRecommendation:\nAdopt a resolution, entitled:\nA RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SIGNAL HILL,\nCALIFORNIA, APPROVING THE 2023 MILITARY EQUIPMENT ANNUAL\nREPORT AND RENEWING ORDINANCE NO. 2022-06-1535, IN\nACCORDANCE WITH ASSEMBLY BILL 481
