24. AWARD OF CONTRACT TO THE REGENTS OF THE UNIVERSITY OF CALIFORNIA\n– F2M5-77, C2M24-44, M2M24-106\nAs a paramedic provider, the City of Alhambra Fire Department is required to meet specific\nmandated training and maintain a quality improvement system. The agreement with the\nRegents of the University of California on behalf of the UCLA Center for Prehospital Care\nallows the City of Alhambra Fire Department to meet the necessary mandates and\nmaintain services to the community as a paramedic provider. The Fire Department has\nutilized these services since October 2010 to maintain the certifications and licenses of\nFire Department paramedics and emergency medical technicians to continue to deliver\nquality patient care to the community. The Regents of the University of California continue\nto provide satisfactory services to the Fire Department. The current contract expires on\nJune 30, 2024. The Regents of the University of California has agreed to enter into a new\ncontract at the existing rate, with an annual increase not to exceed 5% to account for\ninflation and wage increases. The Fire Department would like to continue to work with The\nRegents of the University of California as the contract provides savings to the City and the\nsupport services by The Regents of the University of California are highly specialized and\nessential to the City’s fire operations. Therefore, staff recommends the City Council award\nthe five-year contract and waive the bid process pursuant to Alhambra Municipal Code\nSection 3.38.050.\n15\n6-24-24\nRecommended Action: City Council approve an agreement, subject to final\nlanguage approval by the City Manager and City Attorney, with the Regents of the\nUniversity of California, on behalf of the UCLA Center for Prehospital Care for continuing\neducation programs and quality control services for five years through June 30, 2029 at a\ncost not to exceed $330,349.86, although the City Manager can terminate on 60 days’\nnotice at any time; and, direct staff to undertake the steps necessary to finalize Council’s\naction.
