5. APPROVAL OF UTILITY BOX PUBLIC ART AT THE SOUTHWEST CORNER OF\nWEST MAIN AND SOUTH FIRST STREETS – F2M24-16, M2M24-112\nThe Alhambra Central Business District Association and City staff worked with local\nbusiness Nucleus Gallery to develop a public art opportunity at a utility box in the\nDowntown. The purpose of the public art is foster community pride and reflect the\nAlhambra Community. The public art will also be appropriate for the entire community to\nview and complement adjacent buildings and businesses. A utility box at the southwest\ncorner of West Main and South First Streets was identified as a location for the public art\nproject. This utility box is owned by the City and will add public art to the Downtown street\nintersection. The Arts & Cultural Events Commission reviewed the proposed artwork at\ntheir May 15, 2024 meeting and they supported the project and provided positive input on\nthe design and composition.\nRecommended Action: City Council approve the utility box public art at the\nsouthwest corner of West Main and South First Streets; appropriate funds in the amount\nof $800 from the Public Art Fund; and, direct staff to undertake the steps necessary to\nfinalize Council’s action.
