11. Supporting Breast/Chestfeeding in Los Angeles County\nRecommendation as submitted by Supervisor Hahn: Proclaim the month of\nAugust 2024 as “National Breastfeeding Month,” the week of August 1 through\n7, 2024 as “World Breastfeeding Week,” the week of August 8 through 14,\n2024 as “Indigenous Milk Medicine Week,” the week of August 15 through 21,\n2024 as “Asian American Native Hawaiian Pacific Islander (AANHPI)\nBreastfeeding Week,” the week of August 25 through 31, 2024 as “Black\nBreastfeeding Week,” the week of September 1 through 7, 2024 as “Workplace\nLactation Week,” and the week of September 3 through 9, 2024 as “Semana de\nla Lactancia Latina Week,” with the goals of advancing breast/chestfeeding as\npart of good nutrition, health protection, food security, and poverty reduction;\nand take the following actions:\nInstruct the Directors of Public Health, Health Services, and other\nrelevant County Department Heads, to implement feasible County and\npublic educational activities, in collaboration with community partners that\npromote the value and importance of breast/chestfeeding, including for\nthose with developmental and physical disabilities, as well as\nrecommended strategies for those who require medications to manage\nconditions;\nEncourage all County Departments, especially managers and\nsupervisors, to actively foster and maintain environments that support the\nneeds of lactating parents, including the availability of appropriate spaces\nand break times dedicated to lactation; and all Departments must\ncollaborate with the Department of Human Resources’ Countywide\nLactation Program to ensure that every County facility, whether owned or\nleased, is fully compliant with the existing County policy; and\nEncourage all County Department Heads, Chief Deputies, Administrative\nDeputies, and Departmental Human Resources Managers, to attend the\nDepartment of Human Resources’ 2024 Countywide Lactation Program\nForum in August 2024 to learn more about their obligations under County\npolicy and State law.
