AUTHORIZE RFP: PROFESSIONAL ENGINEERING DESIGN SERVICES FOR THE\nWATER MAIN REPLACEMENT PROJECT ON CONCORD AVENUE, LA PALOMA\nAVENUE AND MERIDIAN AVENUE – F2M24-63, RFP2M24-22\nThe Utilities Department regularly installs water mains to replace aging pipelines and to\nimprove system reliability and water quality. The four-inch cast iron water main pipes on\nLa Paloma Avenue between Main Street and Concord Avenue and on Meridian Avenue\nbetween Main Street and Concord Avenue were installed in 1922. The six-inch cast iron\nwater main pipe on Concord Avenue between Orange Grove Avenue and La Paloma\nAvenue was installed in 1923.The water main pipes have a history of breaks. These water\nmain lines should be replaced and would greatly improve flow and firefighting capabilities\nin an emergency. This project replaces the existing four-inch and six-inch cast iron water\nmains with new 8-inch ductile iron water mains.\nRecommended Action: City Council approve the distribution of a Request for\nProposals for Professional Engineering Design Services for the Water Main Replacement\nProject on Concord Avenue, La Paloma Avenue, and Meridian Avenue with proposals due\nno later than 4:00 p.m. on Thursday, October 24, 2024; and, direct staff to undertake the\nsteps necessary to finalize the Council’s action.
