8. NOTICE OF COMPLETION: ENVIRONMENTAL ASBESTOS ABATEMENT AT THE\nSHORB CLINIC – F2M24-21, C2M24-37, M2M24-187\nOn May 13, 2024, the City Council awarded a contract to Unlimited Environmental Inc. for\nthe abatement of asbestos at the former Alhambra Health Center (Shorb Clinic) in the\namount of $184,000. There were two change orders to the project. The change orders\nincluded: removal and disposal of two transite pipes, removal of plaster and red brick to\naccess pipes and re-installation of plywood on building windows. The change orders\ntotaled $18,042.16 for a final contract amount of $202,042.16 Staff has inspected this\nproject, and all work has been completed in accordance with the City’s requirements and\nspecifications. As such, it would be appropriate for the City Council to accept this project\nas complete.\nRecommended Action: City Council accept the work of Unlimited Environmental Inc.\nfor the abatement of asbestos at the former Alhambra Health Center as complete in the\namount of $202,042.16; direct the City Clerk to file a Notice of Completion with the County\nof Los Angeles for recordation; instruct the Finance Director to release the 5 percent\nretention 35 days from the date of recordation if no liens are filed; and, direct staff to\nundertake the steps necessary to finalize Council’s action.
