5. ACCEPT GRANT: OFFICE OF TRAFFIC SAFETY – PEDESTRIAN AND BICYCLE\nSAFETY PROGRAM – F2M24-18, M2M24-184\nThe goal of the Office of Traffic Safety and Pedestrian Bicycle Safety Program is to reduce\nthe number of individuals killed or injured from collisions involving pedestrians and\n3\n10-14-24\nbicyclists through grant funding for local law enforcement agencies. The Alhambra Police\nDepartment intends to utilize funding for the FY 2024-2025 Pedestrian and Bicycle Safety\nProgram to enhance community safety through various educational programs. Such\nprograms and services will include classroom education, bicycle rodeos, community\nevents and presentations on an overtime basis. Participation in programs such as National\nWalk to School Day, National Bicycle Safety Month, National Pedestrian Safety Month\nand California’s Pedestrian Safety Month. In addition, the Police Department intends to\nuse grant funding to purchase bicycle helmets to be distributed to community members at\nvarious events throughout the grant cycle.\nRecommended Action: City Council accept the Office of Traffic Safety (OTS) grant\nin the amount of $35,000; appropriate revenue and expenditure funds in the amount of\n$35,000; authorize the Chief of Police to enter into a contract with the Office of Traffic\nSafety for grant implementation; and, direct staff to undertake the steps necessary to\nfinalize Council’s action.
